About GFR Calculator

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the amount of blood that is purified by the kidneys over a period of time. GFR is the primary metric for assessing renal function and stage of renal failure. The glomerular filtration rate is determined by the rate of blood cleansing (clearance) from certain substances excreted by the kidneys that are not subject to secretion and reabsorption in the tubules (most often it is creatinine, inulin, urea). Rehberg's test allows one to judge about glomerular filtration and tubular reabsorption in the kidneys. The test is based on the fact that creatinine is filtered only by the glomeruli, practically not absorbed and secreted by the tubules in an insignificant amount. To determine the GFR, you can examine the urine collected during the day.

Renal function assessment using three formulas: CKD-EPI, MDRD, Cockcroft-Gault. Glomerular filtration rate indicates the amount of blood that is cleared by the kidneys in a given period of time. It is determined by the degree of elimination (clearance) of certain metabolic products (creatinine) from the body. What is the test for: allows you to determine the presence and degree of chronic kidney disease and other violations of the filtration function; helps in calculating the doses of medications in patients with disorders of the excretory system (diabetes mellitus, severe arterial hypertension, urolithiasis, etc.). This parameter is often reduced in patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, urolithiasis. It is in such patients that the structure of the renal parenchyma is disrupted and the number of working cells of the organ - nephrons - decreases.
